It’s another lazy summer – time to chill out and take it easy.
If you’ve spent the last three seasons working hard on your art, it’s time to kick back and just have some fun. Don’t worry about creating impressive, thought provoking masterpieces or mastering a new technique or medium.
Just take it easy and play around with your colors. Paint some rocks with the kids, create one-of-a-kind hand painted T-shirts or use a chunk of driftwood to paint a colorful sign for the patio or porch.
Try Some Inexpensive Paints
For messing around, you don’t need to use your costly pigments. These summer time paintings aren’t masterpieces that require conservation materials and handling. There are lots of craft quality paints that come in a wide variety of fun and fanciful colors, are packaged in handy containers and won’t break your budget.
They’re also great for your kids or grandkids. You’re sure to have big fun flinging paint with the little ones. Just make sure the paints are non-toxic and rated safe for your kids.
Paint sets are usually less costly per unit than buying individual colors. You may get a few colors you wouldn’t have chosen for your palette, but the savings can be significant.

Tips For Working With Craft Acrylics
Unlike your artist’s acrylics, these paints dry to a matte finish. If you want to achieve a gloss finish, you would need to use brush a gloss medium over the complete piece or spray with a high-gloss acrylic clear coat.
Craft paints do not have as much pigment in the formulations, so you will not achieve the same intensity of color you do with your artist grade paints. They also do not have the opacity or covering power that your regular paints possess.
To paint on fabric, you need a fabric medium to add to the paint. This ensures that the paint doesn’t dry hard on your t-shirt, tote bag or scarf.
These paints can be blended with your existing acrylic paints.
